Bonjour! C'est moi Chanteloup. Le 5 juin, Mam Nadia m'a amené à l'Expo de Lyon. J'ai essayé de lui faire comprendre que ce n'était vraiment pas ma tasse de thé, en muant tous les poils de mon dos dans les 15 jours avant l'expo, mais elle m'a dit qu'on y allait quand'même. Bof.
Hi! I'm Chanteloup. On June 5, Mommy Nadia took me to the Dog Show in Lyon. I tried to get her to understand that it really wasn't my cup of tea by shedding every hair on my back in the two weeks before the show, but she said we'd go anyway. Phoo.

Là nous attendons notre tour. A gauche c'est Fifi (Feeling du Priamont de la Perce-Neige), ma demi-soeur qui est resté avec nous pendant que Mam' M-C était dans le ring avec Ronya. Fifi a fait meilleure Jeune de la race et ensuite 5ème du Groupe 9 - je suis hyper fière d'elle!
Here we're waiting for our turn. On the left is Fifi (Feeling du Priamont de la Perce-Neige), my half-sister who stayed with us while Mommy M-C was in the ring with Ronya. Fifi got best Young Phalene and then came in 5th in the Group 9. I'm so proud of her!

Comme d'hab la juge m'a regardé partout. J'aime pas beaucoup ça.
As usual the judge had to look at me everywhere. I don't like this much.

Après on a dû montrer qu'on savait marcher. Pfft. Tout le monde sait marcher. C'est un pied devant l'autre, quoi. On s'endort.
Then we have to show we can walk. Duh. Everyone can walk. One foot goes in front of the other. Boooring.

Je prends la jolie pose. Salut toi, je sais pas qui tu es. Tu t'amuses, toi? Quand est-ce qu'on peut prendre une sieste?

Etre un chien veut dire ne jamais regarder ensemble dans la même direction. Une chien de plus, on pourrait dire que c'est un Cerbère... ou avait-il 3 têtes et non 5?

Being a dog means never looking in the same direction together. One more dog, and they'd qualify as a Cerberus... or was that 3 heads, not 5?

Je me présente: Darcy, vous vous souvenez peut-être de moi quand j'étais un petit chiot? Je suis de retour chez Mam' Nadia. La vie à des alléas imprévisible, et parfois on ne peut pas faire la même route ensemble aussi longtemps qu'on le pensait, alors j'ai retrouvé le chemin de ma maison natale. Ici y'a ma maman et mon papa (Aramisse et Toya), et pleins de copains qui sont d'accord de jouer tout le temps. Mam' Nadia me sort beaucoup, j'apprend à bien marcher en laisse et tout, mais je n'aime toujours pas être seul. Heureusement, quand Mam' Nadia part, y'a encore les potes pour me tenir compagnie!

Hi, I'm Darcy, you might remember me when I was a puppy? I'm back at Mom Nadia's. Life can have strange twists and turns, and sometimes you don't stay with someone as long as you thought you would, so I found my way back to my birth place. My Mom and Dad are here (Aramisse and Toya) and there's a whole bunch of friends who are always ready to play. Mom Nadia takes me out a lot, I'm learning to walk well on a leash and everything, but I still don't like being alone. Luckily, when Mom Nadia has to go out I've still got my buddies to keep me company!

Sunday August 29, I took Equinox and Eirinn to the La Roche sur Foron dog show, to be confirmed for breeding. They were both confirmed, and both were judged 1st Excellent. C'est la seule photo de moi en train de marcher, tellement vite que je suis tout flouuuu! Mam' Nadia m'a dit qu'elle était très fière de moi, que j'ai marché comme un "pro". Ca se mange, un "pro"?
This is the only shot of me walking, so fast I'm a blurrrr! Mom Nadia said she was real proud of me, that I walked like a "pro". Don't know what that is. Must be fun, though.

Et moi c'est Eirinn... Je pas très bien compris ce qu'on faisait là. Beaucoup de bruit, beaucoup de grands chiens. La dame juge était gentille et m'a fait pleins de caresses, alors ça, ça allait.
And this is Eirinn... I wasn't quite sure what we were doing here. Lots of noise, lots of big dogs. The lady was nice and cuddled me a bit, so that was okay.

Mais bon, pour faire plaisir à Mam' Nadia j'ai quand'même marché comme une reine... mais j'en suis une, non? Je sais que Mam' Nadia le pense, elle me l'a dit.

Hier, dimanche 1er mars, Marie-Christine Jaquier et moi-même sommes parti à Valence (à mi-chemin de la Côte!) pour participer à l'expo de Valence.
Yesterday, on Sunday March 1, Marie-Christine Jaquier and I drove off to Valence (half-way to the coast!) with Jessie James and Brieg to the Valence dog show.

... tandis que maman Jessie attend qu'on tourne le dos. C'est Jess en mode "murène", planquée discrètement dans un coin sombre jusqu'a la seconde d'inattention, pour qu'elle puisse sauter sur la table et vider les gamelles à vitesse lumière.

Le premier indice qu'une infraction est en train d'être commis est un bruit de "scrountch scrountch scrountch"... Entendre ce bruit, c'est savoir que c'est déjà trop tard...

The first clue that a crime is being committed is the noisy "scrunch scrunch scrunch" coming from the table top. If you hear it, it's too late...

D'Artagnan (le héros de bien des histoires dans ce blog!) devait rester à l'élevage pour expo si il faisait moins de 2kg500, mais à 6 mois il fait dans les 3kg... faut croire qu'il veut "sa famille à lui"!

Il est affectueux, espiègle, drôle, adorable - et a un charisme d'enfer! Quand on est pas à l'école des chiots, ou en train de jouer avec Maman, ou jouer dans notre enclos, on a le droit de sortir pour jouer. Les arbres sont en train de devenir tout brun, et il y a des feuilles partout par terre, mais l'herbe est encore bien verte et on peut courrir dedans aussi, mais nous on préfère s'amuser sur le chemin devant la maison...

When we're not at puppy school, or playing with Mommy, or playing in our pen, we get to go outside to play. The trees are going brown and the leaves are all over the ground, but the grass is still all green and we can run in that too, but usually we play on the path in front of the house...

Hier on a été à l'école! C'est marrant et difficile à la fois, y'a plein de nouvelles choses à voir et des chiots à rencontrer.

On nous a appris comment faire toutes sortes de trucs: être gentils avec les chiots qu'on connaît pas, marcher en laisse comme il faut, s'assoire, se coucher, revenir quand on nous appelle... mais on sait déjà s'assoire et se coucher, non? C'est un peu bête, ça...

Yesterday we went to school! It was fun and tough at the same time, there's lots of new things to learn, and new puppies to meet.

Also we were taught lots of things we have to know, like being nice to other puppies, walking properly on a leash, sitting, lying down, and coming back when we're called... don't we already know how to sit and lay down? Silly, really...

Vendredi dernier, Mam' Nadia nous a amené, nous Penny et Chanteloup, à Lausanne pour rencontrer le gentil docteur qui teste les rotules des phalènes. Il nous a tripoté toutes les deux dans tous les sens, il a tiré sur nos jambes et les a tourné partout, et après il a remplit pleins de papiers pour dire qu'on est tout bon, on a les rotules 0/0... Paraît que c'est bien!

On Friday, Mom Nadia took us, Penny and Chanteloup, all the way to Lausanne to meet a nice doctor who tests the hip joints of phalenes. He turned us this way and that, pulled our legs in all directions and in circles too, and then he filled in lots of papers saying that all's well, we're PL 0/0... which is supposed to be rather good!

Tandis que Chanteloup, qui s'est faufillée dans le parc à chiots (encore une fois!), prend tout ça plutôt au sérieux.
Whereas Chanteloup, having sneaked into the puppy pen (again), takes it all rather seriously!

Après avoir vu le docteur, on est allé se balader au bord du lac avec Mam' Marie-Christine, et aussi Sonate et Doulcine, qui sont supers sympas (on peut les voir sur www.phalenes.ch)! On aurait été très content qu'on nous prennent toutes en photo, mais Mam' Nadia est un peu tête en l'air (pour ne pas dire blonde!) elle a oubliée l'appareil photo à la maison... Ca sera pour une prochaine fois!

After seeing the doctor, we went for a walk by the lake with Mom Marie-Christine, who was with Sonate and Doulcine. Both girls were very sweet (you can see them on www.phalenes.ch) and it would have been nice to have our picture taken with them but Mom Nadia, who's a bit absent-minded (well, blonde) forgot the camera at home... Oh well, next time...

Et encore un tour! Dimanche passé, le 7 sept., nous étions de retour dans les rings d'expo, cette fois à Macon. C'est sympa de visiter la France comme ça - en fait on ne vois pas grand'chose à part l'autoroute, des routes de campagne et des salles d'expo, mais au moins on a l'impression de voyager!

Une fois n'est pas coutume, les jugements commençaient à 9:00, et au lieu de passer à 15:00 comme d'hab (les phalènes suivent toujours les papillons, qui souvent souvent quatre autres races), il n'y avait que 8 papillons devant moi. Mon arrivée éssoufflée à 9:15 m'a permis de donner un rapide coup de brosse avant de devoir se présenter dans le ring. Heureusement que les phalènes sont faciles à l'entretien, car si j'avais du fignoler leur toilletage comme certaines races, je n'y serais pas arrivé!

And we did it again! Last Sunday, Sept. 7 we were back on the show rings, this time in Macon. It's a great way to visit France - you don't actually see much of anywhere except highways, country roads and show halls, but at least you feel like you're travelling!

This time the judging began at 9:00, and instead of going though at 3:00 pm as usual (the phalenes follow the papillons which usually follow four other breeds), there were only 8 paps ahead of me, so my gasping arrival at 9:15 only gave me time to give the dogs a quick brush before getting into the ring. Thank goodness phalenes are low maintenance - if they had to be fiddled with for an hour like poodles, we wouldn't have made it!

Et non, ce n'était pas l'heure de rentrer - les deux ont eu des supers résultats - Toya le CACS, CACIB et le Meilleur de Race, et Chanteloup 1er Excellent et Meilleur Jeune. Du coup on a décidé d'attendre le ring d'honneur...

Qui a eu lieu vers 18h30 après une loooongue attente. Mais chaque seconde d'attente a valu la peine: Chanteloup, dans le Groupe 9 Jeune, a été classée 3ème! On lui a même donné une autre coupe itou itou! MA petite Chanteloup! Nous étions sur un nuage - en tout cas, moi je l'étais, je crois que Chanteloup voulait juste rentrer retrouver sa gamelle et faire une bonne sieste, même après que je lui ai expliqué que c'était très rare qu'un phalène se retrouve sur le podium devant les caniches et les bichons... mais bon, maison, dodo, c'était bien aussi!

And no, it wasn't time to go home yet - both had great results - Toya the CACS, CACIB and the BOB, and Chanteloup 1st Excellent and Best Young. So of course we had to wait for the Honor Ring...

Which came up at around 6:30 pm after a loooong wait. But every second was worth it: Chanteloup, in the Young Group 9, came 3rd!!! She even got an extra trophy and all!!! MY little Chanteloup! We were sooo chuffed - well, I was, I think Chanteloup just wanted to get home to her kibble and a good night's sleep, even after I explained to her how rare it was that a phalene would beat out all the poodles and bichons etc. to come 3rd... but okay, home's good too!

Le samedi 30 et dimanche 31 août, Toya (Silky Touch's Gardony) et Chanteloup du Fief d'Aragon ont fait 3 petits tours sur les pistes d'expo à La-Roche-sur-Foron et à Evian.

On Saturday 30 and Sunday 31 August, Toya (Silky Touchs' Gardony) and Chanteloup du Fief d'Aragon went through their paces at the shows of La-Roche-sur-Foron and Evian.

Les deux ont eu des supers résultats: pour ce qui savent, Toya a obtenu le CACS, le CACIB and le BOB les DEUX jours, et du coup il a aussi reçu le Challenge de Savoie. Et enfin, dans le ring d'honneur à Evian il était dans les 6 derniers sélectionnés pour le groupe 9, du rarement vu pour un phalène!

Chanteloup a été confirmée pour l'élevage samedi, et a obtenu un 1er Excellent en Classe Jeune dimanche. Le juge aurait bien voulu lui attribuer la titre de Meileure Jeune, mais cette expo ne le discernait pas... dommage!

Un grand merci à mes deux "assistants": samedi, mon neveu Alexandre m'a donné un super coup de main avec les deux chiens et avec toutes nos affaires (y'a toujours une tonne de choses dans une expo!), et dimanche mon amie Deborah a pris le relai... merci les amis, pour votre aide et aussi pour toutes ces photos!

They both had great results: for those in the know, Toya got the CACS, the CACIB and the BOB at BOTH shows, which earned him the Savoy Challenge title, and at Evian in the Honor Ring he was in the top 6 selected for the 9th group... very rare for a phalene!

Chanteloup was confirmed for breeding on Saturday and got 1st Excellent on Sunday, with a puzzled judge asking why there wasn't a Best Youth title for phalenes so he could give it to her... rather lovely!

A huge thanks to my two "assistants": on Saturday my nephew Alexandre gave me a great hand with both dogs and all our stuff (there's always lots of stuff at a show!), and on Sunday my friend Deborah took over... thank you, my friends, for all your help and also for all the pix you took!

On a appris que frérot Darcy s'est accaparé Maman et que Mam' Nadia a pris PLEIN de photos de lui! Oooh c'est pas sympa, Darcy! NOUS on est beau aussi! En tout cas, moi je suis beau. Moi je suis D'Artagnan, je suis tout petit et tout mignon!

We's found out that bruvver Darcy hogged Mommy and Mommy Nadia took LOTS of pix of him! Oooh naughty Darcy! WE'S bootiful too! Well, I's is. I's is D'Artagnan, I's is all little and really cute!

Moi, Dorian, je pose pour ma photo. Je suis doux et adorable et j'aime bien mordiller les orteils des humains qui viennent me voir.

Moi c'est Da Vinci. Je suis le frangin le plus grand, mais aussi le plus calin et j'adore jouer...

On a déménagé dans un graaand enclos dans le salon et on a rencontré tous les autres chiens, ils viennent nous dire bonjour et ensuite ils essaient de faucher nos jouets et nos nonosses, mais Mam' Nadia nous les ramène. Nous aimons manger les croquettes qui croustillent, mais on nous donne encore de la bonne bouillie et bien sûre not' Maman est toujours là avec son lait...

On a la place pour courrir, pour tomber partout et Mam' Nadia nous prendrait bien en photo à ces moments-là mais elle dit qu'on bouge trop vite! Alors parfois on reste tranquille et on fait les beaux parce qu'elle aime bien nous prendre en photo, Mam' Nadia...

We's all moved into a biiig pen in the living room and we's met all the other doggies, they come up to say hello then they try to steal our toys and chewy bones but Mommy Nadia gives them back to us. We likes eating the crunchy bits of food, but we still get the goopy stuff on a plate and of course our Mommy is there with her milk...

We has room to run around and fall all over, and Mommy Nadia would take pix but she says we move too fast! So sometimes we sit down and look pretty for her 'coz she likes to take pix...

Ca c'est ma maman. Elle s'appelle Aramisse des Charmes d'Antan, c'est joli, non? Ma maman c'est la meilleure au monde. Elle s'occupe de moi et me garde bien au chaud.

This is my Mommy. Her name is Aramisse de Charmes d'Antan, isn't that pretty? My Mommy is the bestest in the world. She takes care of me and keeps me warm.

Elle me nettoye, aussi, c'est moins drôle (ça mouille!).

She keeps me clean too (that's less fun! I gets all wet).

Mais surtout elle me laisse jouer avec elle et sautiller partout.
But mostly she lets me play with her and jump around all over the place.

Et elle fait même semblant de me laisser gagner la partie de catch! Ma maman c'est la meilleure maman AU MONDE et quand mes frangins font dodo, elle est TOUTE A MOI!

Dimanche, ma mère est venue me rendre visite... évidemment Kayla était ravie de la revoir, et n'a pas hésité à exprimer son bonheur en s'installant immédiatement sur sa tête.

Petit portrait de mon premier "chien d'expo," le bel Aragon des Charmes d'Antan... qui m'a aussi gracieusement permis d'utiliser son nom pour mon élevage.

Je suis tombé amoureuse d'une photo d'Aragon sur le net, émotion suivie d'une frénésie d'impatience... mais j'ai patienté, négocié avec les enfants, re-patienté, renégocié avant de craquer pour sa jolie frimousse, sa délicatesse et son caractère merveilleux...

En arrivant à la maison, il m'a lancé sur l'aventure de l'élevage, car avoir un phalène de qualité m'a forcément amené sur le chemin du "pourquoi pas...?" Et de toute façon, mon véto voulait vraiment s'acheter la nouvelle BM...

Son passe-temps favori? S'installer sur le dos du canapé et lécher les oreilles des humains assez idiots pour s'assoir devant lui...

Merci, mon Aragon adoré, pour tout... et surtout pour les oreilles propres!

Portrait of my first "show dog,"Aragon des Charmes d'Antan, who graciously allowed me to use his name for my kennel.

It's all his fault, really - I saw a picture of him on the net, fell immediately and madly in love with his sweet little face, and from then on went into a frenzy of negotiations with the kids, attempting patience as a tactic (and fate, with the "if he isn't sold by such-and-such a date, it means he's mine!"), more negotiations, more patience... until I caved in and went to get him. He'd charmed me with his first snuffle, I should have known then that I was an absolute goner.

Once I got him home, that was it. Having a lovely show-quality dog led me to the next obvious thought: why can't I breed them? And yes, my vet did really want that new Beemer...

His favorite passtime at home? Sitting on the back of the sofa and licking the ears of any humans silly enough to sit in front of him...

Thank you for everything, my darling Aragon... and especially for the clean ears!

Et voilà le Papa, l'estimé Silky Touchs Gardony, qu'on appelle Toya. Il a l'air de se prendre très au sérieux, mais il adore se faufiler sous les couvertures des canapés, et resortir avec un "Me voilà!" et un gros sourire.

News news news: le lendemain (lundi 21 juillet) Toya a eu son examen des yeux, et je suis ravie d'annoncer qu'il est libre de PRA!

Les bébés mangent et dorment et dorment et mangent... un peu ennuyeux, alors de temps en temps Mam' Misse part se balader... il fait un temps superbe, alors pourquoi pas? On peu même aller faire un tour chez les voisins!

The babies actually held still for 2 seconds (well, I waited 'til they'd eaten and were thoroughly asleep, actually) so I could snap their portraits in pairs. No way was I going to move them -this would have woken them up, leading to much whining and frantic wriggling until they got back safe under Mommy again.

Mon petit Dances with Woofs s'étant montré être bien plus qu'un cowboy poussiereux défiant des armées, mais plutot un p'tit gars audacieux, suave et élégant lançant un challenge au monde, perché en haut de son monde (voir ci-dessus)... il portera donc dorénavent le nom de D'Artagnan, et ce blog sera le seul témoin qu'il a un jour porté un autre nom... qui en fait n'était pas très clair en français... Aurais-je un peu tendance à mélanger les langues?

My little Dances with Woofs has proven himself to be much more than a scruffy cowboy defying armies, but rather a daring, suave and debonair little guy challenging the world from atop the world (see above)... he will therefore henceforth be known as D'Artagnan instead, and I will change his name everywhere I've put it. Except, of course, on this blog, which will keep a record of his original name which unfortunately was rather incomprehensible in French. Oh well. I seem to do that a lot.

Yesterday, 4 little guys were born at the Fief d'Aragon... Mom Aramisse des Charmes d'Antan is doing great, and Daddy Gardony (Toya) is terribly excited to be a daddy again... or he would be if he actually knew!

Their names, which might still change, are: Darcy, Da Vinci, Dorian and Dances-with-Woofs.

Concours d'Agility à Founex

Aujourd'hui, notre club d'Agility a organisé son concours annuel pour les membres du club. Histoire de se mesurer entre amis et entres cours (celui de mercredi, du samedi et du dimanche, entres autres...).

Evidemment, les résultats c'est autre chose... Jess, ma petite débutante, a quand'même gagné le parcours officiel en débutants, et Kayla, ma croisé phalène a été parfaite mais moi j'ai eu un grand moment de solitude au milieu du parcours en l'envoyant sur un saut à l'envers...

Elliott avait un petit handler de 7 ans, qui a gagné le Gambler en débutant, et est arrivé 3ème dans le parcours officiel.

Tout ça a été partagé par pratiquement tout le club qui a montré un sacré courage, vu le temps (pluie pluie pluie)...

A recommencer l'année prochaine!
